We Can Now Support Bridges with Implants

We Can Now Support Bridges with ImplantsDental bridges are oral appliances that have been around for quite some time. Today, dental bridges are among the leading missing tooth replacement options. They are made from dental porcelain that resembles natural teeth. With dental bridges, your smile and confidence will be restored. The function and balance of your bite will also swing back in action. To make things better, we can now support dental bridges with implants.

Implant-supported Bridges

Implant-supported bridges are almost similar to regular bridges. However, implant-supported bridges are different in how they are attached to the jaw. Instead of being supported by dental crowns that regular bridges use, implant-supported bridges are attached to small titanium posts that are carefully implanted in your jaw. The size of the dental bridge determines the number of posts placed.

If you are thinking of getting implant-supported bridges, you will have to undergo two procedures. These procedures are separated by 4-6 months of recovery time. As much they need a greater time investment, implant-supported bridges are more advantageous than regular dental bridges. For instance, with implant-supported bridges, the teeth surrounding them don't have to be altered when placing the crown. This is because they don't rely on surrounding teeth for support. They also don't require the removal of healthy tissues.

In terms of stability, implant-supported bridges are far ahead of the regular ones. They stay in position while you speak, eat, or laugh. With them, you don't have to worry about the potential damages when eating hard foods. However, one concern regarding implant-supported dentures is that you must have healthy gum tissues to get them. You must also have sufficient bone tissue to support them. If your jaw bone doesn't meet these qualifications, we will perform a gum graft procedure. This is done to provide the necessary support.
