However, the truth is that most tooth loss is preventable. In fact, with proper oral care and regular dental checkups, you can keep your natural teeth healthy for a lifetime.

Common Causes of Tooth Loss

The most common causes of tooth loss are:
•  Gum disease: This is an infection of the gums that can damage the tissues and bones supporting your teeth.
•  Tooth decay: This is a bacterial infection that can damage the enamel and dentin of your teeth.
•  Trauma: Injuries to the mouth can cause tooth loss.
•  Bruxism: This is the grinding or clenching of your teeth, which can wear down your teeth and damage the supporting structures.

There are a number of things you can do to prevent tooth loss:
•  Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride helps to strengthen your teeth and prevent decay.
•  Floss daily to remove plaque and bacteria from between your teeth. Plaque is a sticky film that can harden into tartar, which can irritate your gums and lead to gum disease.
•  See your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings. Your dentist can check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other problems and provide you with the necessary treatment.
•  Eat a healthy diet that is low in sugar and processed foods. Sugary and processed foods can contribute to tooth decay.
•  Avoid smoking and chewing tobacco. Smoking and chewing tobacco can increase your risk of gum disease and tooth loss.

There are many benefits to keeping your natural teeth:
•  Natural teeth are strong and durable.
•  They look and function better than artificial teeth.
•  They can help to prevent bone loss in your jaw.
•  Natural teeth are easier to care for than artificial teeth.

Tooth loss is not an inevitable part of aging. With proper oral care and regular dental checkups, you can keep your natural teeth healthy for a lifetime. If you have any concerns about your oral health, please talk to your dentist.
